About Visby
Visby operates as a cruise port from May through September, offering excellent conditions for exploring one of Scandinavia's most significant medieval destinations. The season provides extended daylight hours ideal for shore excursions across the island of Gotland.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its remarkably intact medieval character. The town wall encircles the centre and stands as one of the most distinctive features, with a rating of 4.7 from 1,288 reviews. Other historical landmarks within close reach include Österport (Eastern Gate) and Norderport (Northern Gate), both highly rated by visitors. The Great Square and several church ruins complete the medieval atmosphere that has survived since the Late Middle Ages.
What to see near the port
Most attractions lie within 2.4 km of the port, making them easily accessible on foot or by local transport. DBW's Botanical Garden offers a change of pace with a 4.6 rating from 2,340 reviews. History enthusiasts will find plenty to explore amongst the preserved stone houses and decorative alleyways that characterise Visby's old town.
Visby connects to other Baltic cruises, with nearby ports including Copenhagen, Gdańsk, Helsinki and Kiel.
Visby is an urban area in Sweden and the seat of Gotland Municipality in Gotland County on the island of Gotland with 24,330 inhabitants as of 2017. Visby is also the episcopal see for the Diocese of Visby. The Hanseatic city of Visby is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Scandinavia, and, since 1995, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Among the most notable historical remains are the 3.4 km (2.1 mi) long town wall that encircles the town center, and a number of church ruins and its small decorative alleyways. The decline as a Hanseatic city in the Late Middle Ages was the cause for many stone houses being preserved in their original medieval style.
