About Stockholm
Sweden's capital stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Founded in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl, Stockholm is home to approximately 1 million people in the municipality, with 1.6 million in the urban area and 2.5 million in the metropolitan area. The city has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC.
Most attractions lie within a short distance of the port. The Royal Palace and King's Garden are both just 0.3 km away, whilst Storkyrkan church sits 0.4 km from the quay. The Vasa Museum, one of Stockholm's most visited attractions, is 1.3 km away, and Skansen museum is 2.1 km distant.
