About Split

Split's cruise season runs from April through October, offering warm Mediterranean weather and long daylight hours perfect for exploring. As the second-largest city in Croatia and the largest on the Croatian coast, Split combines over seventeen centuries of continuous urban history with its role as a leading tourist destination.

The city's heart centres on Diocletian's Palace, a remarkable historical landmark just 0.2 km from the port. Within easy walking distance you'll find Saint Domnius' Cathedral and the Saint Domnius Bell Tower, both highly rated by visitors. The Archaeological Museum and Split City Museum provide deeper insight into the region's rich past, whilst the Split viewpoint offers panoramic vistas across the Adriatic.

Things to see and do

  • Diocletian's Palace – the iconic Roman structure at the city's core
  • Marjan Forest Park – a scenic green space 1.4 km from port
  • Jupiter's Temple – an ancient historical site within the palace complex
  • Saint Domnius' Cathedral and Bell Tower – medieval religious architecture

Split serves as a key hub for Adriatic cruises, with nearby ports including Dubrovnik, Kotor, Ravenna and Bari.

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia, after the capital Zagreb, situated on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. As the administrative seat of Split-Dalmatia County and the largest city on the Croatian coast, it serves as a key economic, cultural, and transportation hub for the region. Developed around the historic core of Diocletian's Palace and extending across a central peninsula toward its surrounding suburbs and hinterland, Split combines a continuous urban tradition spanning more than seventeen centuries with a contemporary role as one of Croatia's leading tourist destinations. The city itself has a population of over 160,000, while the metropolitan area encompasses approximately 310,000 inhabitants.
