About Ravenna
Ravenna served as the capital of the Western Roman Empire during the fifth century AD, making it one of Italy's most historically significant cities. Today, visitors can explore its remarkable heritage through a collection of churches, baptisteries and monuments, many within a short walk of the cruise port.
The city centre holds several exceptional attractions. The Basilica of San Vitale and Mausoleo di Galla Placidia are among the most highly rated sites, both within 0.7 km of the port. The Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Battistero Neoniano are equally close, offering stunning examples of Byzantine architecture and decoration. Dante's Tomb, just 0.1 km away, draws visitors interested in the poet's final resting place.

Ravenna is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. It was the capital city of the Western Roman Empire during the fifth century AD until its collapse in 476, after which it served as the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom and then the Byzantine Exarchate of Ravenna. With a population of 156,475 inhabitants as of 2026, it is the 24th-largest city in Italy. Ravenna is also the second largest city in Italy by area with 653.82 km2.
