About Nice
Nice ranks among the larger ports in the Western Mediterranean, sitting on the French Riviera between fellow cruise stops like Cannes and Barcelona. The city extends across approximately 744 km² and serves as a major gateway to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, positioned at the foot of the French Alps and just 13 kilometres from Monaco.
Attractions are concentrated close to the port. The Fontaine du Soleil, Promenade du Paillon and Fontaine Miroir d'Eau all sit within 0.6 km, rated 4.6–4.7 by thousands of visitors. Slightly further afield, Colline du Château (1.1 km) and Cascade du Château (1.1 km) offer parks and gardens with consistently high ratings, whilst Parc Castel des Deux Rois and Parc Honoré d'Estienne d'Orves extend the options to 1.9 km away.
Exploring Nice from your cruise
Most points of interest lie within easy reach on foot or by local transport. The Promenade du Paillon, a major park and garden attraction, combines excellent ratings with proximity to the port, making it ideal for a short excursion. For those seeking a fuller day ashore, the castle hill area rewards the slightly longer walk with multiple rated attractions and panoramic views across the city and coastline.
Nice is a city and commune, and the prefecture of the department of Alpes-Maritimes, and the administrative region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France. The Nice agglomeration extends beyond the administrative city limits, with a population of nearly one million over an area of approximately 744 km2 (287 sq mi) or about the size of Singapore. Located on the French Riviera, the southeastern coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the French Alps, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast and second-largest city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after Marseille. It is approximately 13 kilometres (8 mi) from the principality of Monaco and 30 kilometres (19 mi) from the French–Italian border. Nice's airport serves as a gateway to the region.
