About Costa Maya
Costa Maya is a small tourist region in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, situated on the Caribbean coast near the border with Belize. Like other Caribbean cruise destinations such as Basseterre, Bridgetown, Castries, and Charlotte Amalie, it has become an increasingly popular port of call for cruise ships. The area was largely undeveloped until a large pier was constructed to accommodate cruise vessels, transforming Costa Maya into a growing tourist destination.
The port is located in the subdivision of Mahahual, near a beach that extends approximately 100 kilometres from Xcalak in the south to the southern border of Sian Ka'an in the north. Visitors can explore several attractions within easy reach of the cruise terminal, including the Faro de Mahahual lighthouse and cultural experiences offered by local tour operators.
Things to Do
Shore excursions and attractions near the port include Costa Maya Chunky Monkey Tours and Costa Maya Pirates, both located at the port itself. The Faro de Mahahual lighthouse stands 1.4 km from the pier, whilst a Mayan Temple replica is situated 2.7 km away. These attractions offer a mix of cultural and recreational activities for cruise passengers.
Costa Maya is a small tourist region in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, the only state bounded by the Caribbean Sea to its east. This municipality is close to Chetumal on the border with Belize. The area was generally undeveloped but has been growing rapidly since construction of a large pier to accommodate cruise ships. Costa Maya is also the name of a subdivision near the village of Mahahual. The beach extends from Xcalak in the south to the southern border of Sian Ka'an in the north, a distance of approximately 100 kilometers (62 mi).
