About Hobart

Hobart is Tasmania's capital and the southernmost state capital in Australia. Its harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world, making it a striking natural feature. The city's skyline is dominated by kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and much of the waterfront consists of reclaimed land, creating a distinctive urban landscape shaped by its maritime heritage.

The city offers visitors a range of cultural and historical attractions within easy reach of the port. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens attract thousands of visitors, whilst the Hobart Convict Penitentiary and Mawson's Huts Replica Museum provide insights into Tasmania's past. For those seeking outdoor spaces, St. David's Park and Parliament House Gardens offer pleasant walks through the city centre.

What to see in Hobart

Close to the port, you'll find Train Park in West Hobart, just 0.3 km away, and Elizabeth Street Pier for waterfront views. Battery Point's Kelly's Steps offer access to one of Hobart's historic neighbourhoods. Hobart has a mild maritime climate, making it pleasant for exploring year-round.

Cruise itineraries in the region often include nearby ports such as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and Dunedin.

Hobart is the capital and most populous city of the island state of Tasmania, Australia. Located in Tasmania's south-east on the estuary of the River Derwent, it is the southernmost capital city in Australia. Despite containing nearly half of Tasmania's population, Hobart is the least-populated Australian state capital city, and second-smallest by population and area after Darwin(55.859) if territories are taken into account. Its skyline is dominated by the 1,271-metre (4,170 ft) kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and its harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world, with much of the city's waterfront consisting of reclaimed land. The metropolitan area is often referred to as Greater Hobart, to differentiate it from the City of Hobart, one of the seven local government areas that cover the city. It has a mild maritime climate.
